FAQs

How many of you are there?

At the moment we are a full-time team of 8 in London, with a steady flow of volunteers, interns and part-time support coming in to help out. In the future we hope there might be a few more, but we never see ourselves as being so vast we have people we can only refer to as "that girl with glasses in accounts". Around the world, and particularly in the USA, Australia, Spain, Germany, Austria and Uganda, we have all sorts of people working with us, and a few working for us, to run our campaigns, launch products and spread the word.

We also have very close relationships with a set of agencies and publishers, who help us make our stuff look really nice and work with us to launch our products. Closest of all and practically part of the family, is creative agency Antidote, who have been with us from day dot.

Are you a charity?

Our movement is made up of a social business (the We Are What We Do Community Interest Company) and a Charitable Foundation (the We Are What We Do Foundation). The business does all the making and selling of products, and services and when it generates profits they go to the Foundation, where we run all our education and community programmes. So, when you buy something from us, you get to contribute to social and environmental campaigns all over the world.

How are you funded?

Our social business has income from products and services, like our Change the World books, speaking events and corporate partnerships. We have a range of supporters for our education and community work, including the Department for Children, Schools and Families, the Aldridge Foundation, v and the Health Improvement & Prevention Programme. We also receive legal support from Lyndales Solicitors and we are generously housed in central London by the Brunswick Group. Many other companies and organisations have supported us since we launched in 2004 - too many to list here - but we're massively grateful to every single one of them.

If you would like to talk to us about making a donation to support our activity, please contact nick.stanhope@wearewhatwedo.org

Do you do work with other companies?

Yep. We've done work with a number of brands and companies including Sainsbury's, Virgin Atlantic, Google UK, Coca-Cola, and Starbucks. We've run employee engagement programmes, created advertising campaigns and run speaking workshops and events. Have a looka t our Work with us section.

If you would like to talk to us about future projects please contact nick.stanhope@wearewhatwedo.org

Do you give talks about your work at events?

Yes we do and we love doing it. David, Eugenie & Nick are out as often as possible speaking at conferences, events, and book fairs. If you would like to find out more, click here for Eugenie, David's & Nick's biogs.

Do you do work internationally?

¡Ah sí! From Dismas Otoori's branch of We Are What We Do in Uganda, to the action tracking website we launched in Spain, to book launches in America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and Germany we've got lots happening all over the world. We have a big new partnership with Coca Cola in Spain, where we're known as Somos Lo que Hacemos, and will be launching a new branch of our German brand, Wir Sind Was Wir Tun, in Austrian in Spring 2010.

If you are interested in working with us or publishing any of our titles in other countries, contact nick.stanhope@wearewhatwedo.org

Can I buy bulk orders of your books to give to staff at my company/ guests at my wedding/ delegates at a conference/ school leavers and will I receive a handsome discount?

Do you do work in schools?

The schools section of this site is full of resources to use at school: stats and facts, advice on running campaigns and creating materials, useful links and materials to download. You can create groups and track actions as a class.

The education team also delivers workshops and trainings in schools. Contact nicole.vandeneijnde@wearewhatwedo.org

So what can I do right now to get involved?

Loads...

Explore our 131 (and growing...) actions.

Pick which actions your already doing and what you want to start doing. Create your own Action Tracker.

Then add notes on what you've done, upload photos and videos and generally tell us more about what you're doing.

Everyone will be able to see it on the main We Are What We Do wall. We're just the pebble that's dropped in the pond. You're the interesting effects. So go on, show us your ripples.

I have another question...

If you've got a question which isn't answered anywhere on the site, contact sara@wearewhatwedo.org (Just so you know, Sara was our very first volunteer one million years ago and while she is no longer with us in person, her spirit lives on in her email address... It's probably now Ella who will actually answer your question.)
